Are apprenticeships appropriate for business development managers?

Prospective business development managers may benefit from apprenticeships, it has been highlighted.

According to Personnel Today, retailers including Tesco and Sainsbury's are calling for the government to make it easier for employers to offer apprenticeships in a wide range of jobs.

Last month, a draft apprenticeships bill pledged to make the process of offering in-house training regimes simpler for organisations.

At the time, skills secretary John Denham told the publication that the number of apprenticeships available in the UK should be roughly trebled.

He said: "There's going to be a big drive in the public sector as it is badly under-represented. It's now clear the apprenticeship model works just as well in administration and management jobs [as it does in manual jobs]."

In related news that may be of interest to business development managers, Online Recruitment magazine recently reported that 85 per cent of senior staff check their work email while on holiday, a poll by Peninsula found.
