British firms 'aim to maximise training impact'
Written by Nikki Barrister
UK firms are attempting to increase the effectiveness of staff sales training to help them survive during the recession, research carried out by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) and Nord Anglia has revealed.
The research found 51 per cent of companies want to target their training more effectively to get maximum return on their spend.
Director general of the CBI Richard Lambert commented: "During turbulent times, it would be understandable if firms have to reduce their training budgets but this survey shows that they are most concerned with getting more value from their training."
He added that upskilling staff will better place firms to benefit from the upturn when it comes.
Last week, the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform announced the merging of its Train to Gain and Business Link services, which will provide sales managers and their companies with free advice and support.
Lord Young, the skills and apprenticeships minister, commented that the new service will facilitate quick and easy access to help.
